Camera Septic Evaluation

Reliable Camera Septic Evaluations in the Severn, MD Area

A camera septic evaluation pairs a standard septic inspection with a camera to view and record the condition of the plumbing lines to the septic tank and from the septic tank to the distribution box and absorption area.  An in-depth inspection of the septic tank and internal components is conducted, also looking at the level of fluids and sludge inside the tank, and the depth of solids.  The inspection confirms that the front and rear baffles are in place.  A hydraulic load test is performed to confirm that water is flowing properly in through the tank, to determine the absorption rate, and evaluate operation of the drainage/ leach fields.

A camera allows for the inspection the waste line from the home to the septic tank, and beyond the septic tank to the distribution box and absorption area without excavation.  The inspection looks for any deficiencies, damage, or potential root intrusion in the drainage lines.  The inspections also confirms that the distribution box in not holding water, potentially indicating the leach field is nearing or past the end of its useful life. This inspection pinpoints damaged or malfunctioning components, where the leach fields branch off to be absorbed into the earth. This process makes it easier to accurately identify any problems such as a damaged tank, clogs, leaks, corrosion, damage, root intrusion, shifting or collapsing of components, and more.

The purpose of a camera septic evaluation is to determine overall condition, to ensure that the septic system is functioning properly, and to identify any maintenance and repairs the system may require.  A camera septic evaluation may also allow the potential for negotiation of repairs with the current homeowner.

As with the general home inspection, a camera septic evaluation allows you to have a better idea of a home’s overall condition.  Without the camera septic evaluation, you may be purchasing a home with a faulty septic system.  This can lead to costly repairs and even dangerous problems for people occupying the home.  Understanding the condition of the septic system and knowing the extent and location of a particular problem will be a key part of a decision in purchasing a home.  A camera septic evaluation can also be helpful to current homeowners who suspect that they likely have a problem and need to be prepared prior to hiring a contractor for repairs.
